In 2011 Dr. Robert Polk became chair of the Health Quality Planning Commission (HQPC) for the State of Idaho. In 2014 the HQPC began looking at suicide prevention, with suicide being number two cause of death for Idahoans age 10-44. Subsequent support by the 2016 Idaho Legislature resulted in funding of nearly $1 million dollars for the states’ suicide prevention plan. Dr. Polk earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Stanford University in biological sciences, a medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and a master’s in public health from Idaho State University.
